The Florida Keys

The Florida Keys are a chain of islands over 100 miles long, extending south from the tip of Florida.

They are the southernmost point in the United States, Key West. While its proximity to the equator in this subtropic climate may lead you to believe it is very hot. But the prevalent tropical ocean breezes tend to make the climate much more comfortable thn you would expect. The mean high temperture varies by only 15 degress year-round! It seldome rises much above 90 degrees in the summertime. And it seldom drops much below the mid-seventies even in wintertime. There is no geological indication that Key West has ever has a frost!

The Florida Keys were formed from a coral reef thousands of years ago, and give uniques and unprecedented access to the sea, wildlife, and fish. The most amazing thing is that they are connected to the mainland by over forty bridges - an amazing feat of engineering!
